Netta's Story

Flight Home

The flight home was not nearly as bad as we had expected. First of all, Netta was really good all through the flight and layover. And second, on both legs of the flight we had a seat for Netta which made it at least bearable.
Netta busied herself with her zippy cup, a couple of toys we had and the TV screen. She would point at it hand say ‘da’. I tended to agree with her.
We arrived bleary eyed but mostly intact. Tamar and Aunt Karen were there to take us home. I can just imagine what this trip must have been for Netta. A taxi ride in the middle of the night, a plane ride, then wandering through the airport in Zurich, only to board another flight (a long one) and then a car ride. ‘Pretty strange’ would be the understatement of the year.
Still she took it in stride.
We were all waiting to see how the first meeting with Ella would go. How she would react to Chamlo (our dog who is very, very big) and the house.
At home Grandma Lilly and Grandpa Danny where taking care of Ella. Everyone was full of anticipation about this first meeting.
Like many much anticipated events, this came and went with no grand goings-on. It just happened.
Netta was transfixed with Chamlo, but not in a bad way. She kept pointing at him and wanted to get closer. This must have been an amazing spectacle for her who we think never saw a dog before.
Ella and Netta were a bit apprehensive of each other and generally avoided looking at one another. Ella gave us a look that said ‘how dare you bring that blond slut to my house’. She didn’t talk to us the whole day. It could also have been recrimination for leaving her for such a long way.
Our first meal together was uneventful with everyone checking out everyone else. Later Netta explored the house and pointed a lot at many interesting things like lights, pictures and anything. Mostly they were classified as ‘da’.
She fell asleep quite easily but woke up several times during the night. Jetlag, or an understanding that nothing is going to stay the same.
